Welcome to Breeze Hill Farm. We are a small family farm in Powhatan, VA specializing in natural grown fibers and goat's milk products. Our farm began in 1994 with just 4 sheep and my how we've grown since then. The fibers that we produce have gained a loyal following of knitters and handspinners throughout the U. S., Canada and Europe they have enjoyed sharing our high quality, naturally raised sheep wool, mohair and alpaca fibers and yarns.
In 2002, we added a small dairy goat feature to the farm. Our decision was to raise our goats in the same way we had raised our sheep, pure and natural. The original thought was to produce goat milk cheeses. Once we learned all of the rules and regulations that went with doing that, we had to change our course. A goat dairy wold simply consume too much of our valuable time and take away from the fiber side. So Breeze Hill Farm goat milk soaps and lotions was born. With all of the amazing benefits of goat's milk for the skin, due to the high butterfat content and a usable parallel of PH to human skin, we were making a product that is beneficial to all skin types, even baby. Raising our goats on pasture, feeding hand blended grains and locally raised hay combined with keeping our babies on their Mother's until weaning, we feel all of this makes our animals much happier and it reflects in the base product that is so valuable to us.
Our process for producing our products is fairly simple. We make our goats milk soap the old fashioned way with goat's milk but instead of using lard for our oils, we use a combination of organic coconut and palm oils. After the soaps have cured they are shaved and heated, at this point we add additional fresh milk and fragrance which is usually essential oils we produce here at the farm from our own herbs or herbs from Manakintowne Specialty Growers. We also make a wonderful Oatmeal & Honey goats milk soap using organic raw oats and locally produced honey from Brookview Farm. Several of our goats milk soaps are made using fragrance oils, never alcohol based perfumes. Then we pour the soap into molds, let the soap set, remove it and cure it a bit longer. They are now ready to use.
We make lotions and a wonderful Nourishing cream as well using fresh goat's milk. As you will see in our listing, we offer two types of lotions. The Breeze Hill Farm Lotion is a good well rounded hand and body lotion, containing many natural ingredients, but we do use “parabens” as a preservative. Even so, many of our customers choose it because it is available in complimenting fragrances to our soaps. Our latest line, Collina Breeza is a pure and natural, fragrance free (for now) and paraben free product. These products are 85% organic. At this time we have it in a lotion, nourishing cream and a hand stamped soap.
The Shea Butter (farm produced Spearmint Essential Oil scented), Lip Balm and Jewelweed Balm (for poison ivy and oak) are all natural products using only citrus extract as a light preservative.
As time goes on through this season we will begin to offer some yarns and rovings for the knitters, spinners and felters buying from the Co-op.
We are very proud of our products and know that only the best, most natural ingredients go into everything we make. While other producers are taking care of what goes into your body, we are making sure that you take care of your largest organ – your skin!
