A bit about our farm . . .
Flint Hill Mini Farm started as a hobby farm to raise a goat. We went from finding a pet for our youngest daughter to having a full fledged mini-farm. We started all this about 8 years ago. We like to think of this as a mini-farm as we do it not for our full time living, but more as a love of animals and a part time recreation, with a bit of money flowing in to sustain the farm. We have about 15 goats now, mostly mostly mamas and baby girls. We had a very good spring birthing with 16 baby kids born.
We also have chickens which we raise for their eggs. What started as a curiosity has grown into about 20 chickens. I love to see them running around picking up ticks, bugs, and anything that flies in front of them good enough to eat.
We raise our cashmere goats for their fiber. We used to comb them to get their fiber, in the spring time. Just when you typically put your coats away for the winter, the goats start shedding their coats also. When we had 30 goats to comb, we elected to shear them and our first year my husband said they looked like they went to a barber college. Ha, ha. We have improved since then and they are looking better with each shearing. Then we send their fiber off to a processor. I have them spin it into a specific weight yarn. I keep some and sell the rest. It is a wonderful product, and is wonderfully warm and soft.
We also have gotten into making our own bath soap. It seemed interesting to me and since we are a family with lots of allergies. I wanted to have something around that I was sure would not make me (us) itch. I make several varieties of soaps which include: goats milk soaps, sweet honey soap, glycerine soap which I make for my grandkids and oatmeal soap.
The goats milks soaps have a bit of moisturizer in them and feel good. You do not smell anything like a goat once your use them. I have various scents I put in them, or can make a special scent at your request. I also like the honey soap as it seems to make my face feel very clean when I wash with it. . Along with that I have a clear glycerin soap that I make for my grandkids. When the soap is cooling I drop plastic bugs into or butterflies, or some kind of plastic creature. They kids love the soaps and can hardly wait to wash their hands.
Aside from that our little farm seems to be a peaceable kingdom. We love to have the grandkids come over and play with the animals, as well as run with the chickens.

Describe your farming, processing practices.
We raise cashmere goats for their fiber and for selling stock as it becomes available. We sheer our goats in the spring and sell our excess stock when the babies are weaned at 3 months. I send the fiber in to get processed into cashmere yarn which I use for caps for family, friends, and some that I sell. I also sell my cashmere yarn online through the Localharvest site, as well as through word of mouth.
I also have developed soaps for my family and for friends and now clients. These soaps come in various scents and some not scented for people who don't want a scent. For children I have developed soaps that have bugs, flowers, etc., inside (plastic of course) which encourage children to wash their hands more often with fun soaps.
